FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elevance and Tetramer Announce Partnership to Develop and Commercialize Novel Renewable ProductsCHICAGO, Ill. (Oct. 22, 2008) — Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc. and Tetramer Technologies, LLC today announced a partnership to develop and commercialize novel renewable specialty chemicals. This unique partnership leverages the capabilities of both partners to accelerate development and commercialization of new, renewable-based products: Tetramer, a startup out of Clemson University, brings organic synthesis, material science and analytical capabilities and Elevance provides marketing, technology, engineering and renewable feedstock processing capabilities. The collaboration, underway since early this year, has already resulted in significant advancements in understanding material science issues related to novel renewable wax structures. The parties have also identified new, high-melt waxes that are being evaluated for commercial potential. Elevance is also co-funding research being conducted by Tetramer under a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase IIB grant provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Under this grant, the NSF will provide Tetramer $500,000 in matching funds over the next two years to support commercialization of novel waxes, intermediates and polymers. "This partnership is a unique example of academia and industry coming together, with the support of government, to invent new materials and take them to the market," said Mel Luetkens, Elevance's COO. "This investment holds significant promise for the renewables industry and I am very pleased that Elevance has the opportunity to be a leader as we continue to explore new innovations with Tetramer." "Elevance values our successful Phase II SBIR relationship with the National Science Foundation which was based on our ability to create new renewable molecular architectures. By co-funding our Phase II B grant, Elevance brings an exciting new commercial focus to this rapidly developing technology that has already led to the addition of new jobs at Tetramer and identification of potential new products. These are desired results for both Tetramer and the SBIR program at NSF," stated Earl Wagener, CEO of Tetramer. About Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc. About Tetramer Technologies, LLC Tetramer currently employs 20 people — 10 PhDs, six Masters and four BS level in an incubator facility located in Pendleton, S.C. |
